Podcast person here - true crime eps make my long walks around Lexington fly by, but for hills I need upbeat stuff like old school hip hop. Down 62 lbs and those steps are a big part of it for me.
23 lbs down and walking more is huge. My trick was fast-paced stuff like old punk and drum-heavy tracks, anything over 160 bpm keeps me from slowing down. Audiobooks work too when the playlist gets stale.
Down 50 lbs myself and walking way more since starting, so I've got opinions on this. True crime podcasts make the miles disappear for me, and for music it's fast-paced 90s stuff that keeps my pace up. Following this thread for ideas too.
Sixty pounds down here and honestly music got me through most of it - fast pop stuff works when I need a push, but longer podcasts are what actually keep me out past the turn-around point. Been rotating a true crime series lately since I refuse to stop mid-episode.
Down 21 lbs and just now building the habit, so this thread is gold for me. Trick I stumbled on: save one album I love for walks only, so there's a reason to lace up. Adding "true crime only past the turnaround point" to the plan.
Audiobook trick works for me too, but only ones I actually love or I start negotiating with myself halfway to the door. Big low-key playlists for me are old school funk and some true crime podcasts on flat days. Down 42 lbs on Saxenda and honestly the step habit did more heavy lifting than I expected.
Eight weeks in and barely down 8 lbs but my walks have gotten longer since I started a throwback metal playlist I refuse to listen to indoors. The audiobook trick is tempting, might stack it on slower days.
Similar trick on my end - I only allow myself a certain audiobook during walks, so cliffhangers get me out the door. Down around 58 lbs and the step habit has been huge for me too. Old school hip hop on hills is real, almost forgot about that until reading this thread.
Old house/techno playlists work for me, the BPM keeps my pace honest. Down 39 lbs and honestly the habit matters more than the music, so saving a new playlist just for walks like the others said is a smart move. Wish I'd thought of the audiobook trick, might steal it.
True crime podcasts are my trick too, way easier to hit 8k steps when I'm mid-episode. Down 24 lbs and I only let myself listen on walks, which has honestly been half the battle.
Since dropping 32 lbs my knees actually let me do longer walks now, and fast-paced electronic stuff keeps my pace honest. Old hip-hop playlists work too when I need a push on hills. Curious what tempo everyone else lands on.
Only letting myself listen to one specific show while walking was a game changer for me too, though mine ended up being a dumb fantasy audiobook I'm weirdly invested in. Down 28 lbs and my usual loop is now long enough to burn through two chapters. Hip-hop for hill days here, for whatever that's worth.
44 lbs down and my loop got long enough that I burned through a whole fantasy series in a couple months, so now I'm rationing a new audiobook to walks only. Fast electronic stuff on days I'd otherwise cut it short. The "only listen while walking" rule really is half the trick.
Same trick here, I save a certain soccer podcast for walks only and it's wild how much farther I go when I want to know what happened. Down 15 lbs and my step count basically doubled once I stopped walking in silence. Weirdly specific pick: anything with a match recap I can argue with out loud.
Rationing a true crime podcast to walks only got me out the door on rainy Portland days when I'd have bailed, and the loop got long enough that I'm two seasons deep. Music-wise nothing beats some dumb upbeat 80s stuff for the last stretch when my legs are done.
Only a couple lbs in so far so my wins are small, but saving a comedy podcast for the loop got me from 3k to 6k steps most days. Trying your audiobook rationing idea next since one episode just isn't enough motivation anymore.
The rationing trick is the only thing that got me walking in Raleigh humidity too, I save a history podcast for loops and hit 9k yesterday without noticing. Grabbed a bunch of audiobooks from the library app when one episode stopped cutting it, maybe that plus your comedy show keeps you climbing past 6k.
Audiobooks ended up being my sweet spot too, chapters are long enough that I keep going to finish a scene. I save anything by a narrator I love for walks only, and my count crept from 5k to over 8k without it feeling like a chore.
