The narrator-only trick is smart, I never thought to gate it like that. Half my 50 lb loss happened on walks powered by a series I refused to listen to anywhere else, so I get why saving the good stuff works. Might steal that for the chapters I keep bailing on at home.
Show us todays step-count victory
Music-heavy playlist guy here, but your thread sold me on trying the walk-only audiobook thing since I keep abandoning podcasts at home anyway. My step count stalled around 7k for weeks and I'll take any trick that makes the last stretch of a loop less of a slog.
I'm the opposite camp, music only, but my trick is one fast song I love queued exactly at the turnaround point of my loop. Weird how much it helps pushing through the boring halfway mark on the days my legs feel heavy. 20 lbs down and honestly the walking streak has mattered as much as the scale.
Down 42 lbs and my playlist trick is similar, I put a few high-energy tracks near the end of a walk so the last mile pulls me home. Audiobook gating never stuck for me since I zone out and lose the plot, but whatever gets you out the door is the right tool. Walking streaks really do carry a lot of the weight of this process.
Louisville here with plenty of hills to make the last stretch brutal, so I queue my loudest hype track for the final climb back home. Down 48 lbs on Wegovy and honestly the step streak got way easier once I stopped treating walks like a chore and started saving a good audiobook chapter just for them. Only rule I've found: nothing so good you save it for the couch.
The saved-chapter trick is the only thing that got me consistent too, down about 39 lbs and I finally stopped rationing my favorite podcast to the couch. Now I start a new episode only when I'm already out the door, so turning around early feels like losing something. That little bit of sunk cost works better than any hype song ever did for me.
